Light Is a Building Material
You can’t buy good light. You can only make room for it.
Ask a client to rank their budget priorities and light rarely makes the list — until they live in a room that gets it right. We treat daylight as a material with a cost, a supplier, and a spec: the sun, the site, and the section.
Position beats size
A modest window placed where the winter sun actually travels will outperform a glass wall aimed at a neighbour’s boundary fence. Before we draw a single opening, we model the sun’s path across the site for a full year.
The cheapest luxury in any home is a patch of morning light landing exactly where you drink your coffee. It costs nothing at all — provided someone thought about it early enough.
None of this shows up on a floor plan rendered in plan view, which is exactly the problem. We now present a sun study alongside every early concept, right next to the budget — because in our experience, one is very often a proxy for the other.
